Boston Renewables welcomes the news that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is to make only electric or hybrid vehicles from 2020.

In an article published in Yorkshire Insider on 7th September 2017, the commitment was made at its inaugural Tech Fest, a series of debates and a free public exhibition about the future of mobility, and follows a similar pledge from Volvo two months ago. JLR has said the first of the new models to be fully-electric, the Jaguar I-Pace, is to go on sale in 2018. JLR chief executive Dr Ralf Speth said: “Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice.”We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. “Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-Pace, goes on sale next year.”

The pace of change of technology becomes ever faster each day and the global drive for low carbon economies is a powerful force that will inevitably accelerate the transition to electric vehicles (EV’s) becoming the norm.

However, whilst the vast amount of R&D being carried out for EV’s by the major vehicle manufacturers is laudable, the rollout of a robust EV charging infrastructure is lagging behind.

At Boston Renewables we have a clear vision of what is required for EV charging, particularly in the private sector. Issues will exist around the electrical ability of individuals sites to provide rapid charging. The solution for electrically constrained sites will be to install charging systems that use batteries to deliver the DC to DC charge.

Much is happening in the EV sector and the message is clear, embrace the change and look forward to an emission free future!
